Our Committees

Student Activities

The Student Activities (SA) Committee focuses on two groups; K-12 Students and Post-High Students. The SA Committee encourages the study of HVAC&R, promotes careers in the HVAC&R industry, support existing ASHRAE student branches and encourage the development of new ASHRAE student branches, promotes grand and design competition programs, and promotes math and science to K-12 students and describe how the study of math & science can lead to an exciting career in engineering.

Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA)

YEA stands for Young Engineers in ASHRAE. The group is for any member who is 35 or younger. The goal of the YEA Committee is to enhance member benefits for young professional members by identifying, creating and supporting activities and services focused on their needs. Our primary focus is attracting and developing YEA members for future membership and leadership in ASHRAE and the HVAC&R industry. We do this through a variety of programs, resources and awards.

Women in ASHRAE

The mission of the Women in ASHRAE (WiA) committee is to promote the addition and retention of women in the built environment by encouraging opportunities for professional development and leadership. We strive to unite women from various occupations including engineering, construction, project management, property development & ownership, equipment sales & manufacturing, architecture and more. We hope to create a network of professionals supporting women in our Region.

Research Promotion

The Research Promotion Committee manages and supports Chapter-level fundraising of the RP Campaign. Traditionally supporting just research, the RP Campaign was expanded 10 years ago to include support of Education & ALI, Endowed Research through ASHRAE Foundation, YEA programs, ASHRAE Scholarships, and the General/Unrestricted fund. Research, the backbone of ASHRAE, remains the primary fund of the program with over $2 million raised for this program annually.

Chapter Technology Transfer

The Chapter Technology Transfer Committee's (CTTC) role is to provide efficient and effective transfer of current and relevant information throughout the HVAC&R industry to and from the chapters. CTTC develops and maintains high quality and readily available tools at the society level to enable chapters to offer information and attractive industry-related information and programs to all segments within the HVAC&R industry.

Government Affairs

The Government Affairs Committee is responsible for organizing ASHRAE members to educate local, state, provincial, and national government bodies and officials in areas of interest to ASHRAE members, and to promote effective cooperation between ASHRAE members and government. The committee works to coordinate government affairs efforts and is responsible for developing the extent and the manner in which ASHRAE implements and pursues actions to influence government affairs and public policy.

A Message From The President

To the members of the ASHRAE Central Arizona Chapter, I am Zehui Hong, and it is with great honor to serve as the ASHRAE Central Arizona Chapter President for the 2025-2026 term. Thank you for the time and work from our chapter volunteer! Thank you for the unceasingly generous donation from our sponsors! Thank you for all the chapter members actively attending the chapter events! Everyone is playing a key role in making every chapter event a success. Our chapter wouldn’t be able to operate for 72 years (!!!) without everyone’s helping hand. This year we have some exciting changes that will help us grow as a chapter and learn far beyond our HVAC knowledge. Firstly, we are moving to a new venue in Tempe for our monthly meeting. It symbolizes a fresh start of the new ASHRAE year and generates fresh excitement to our chapter members. Our second focus is on engaging and encouraging the next generation to get involved in our industry. We have many events planned with our YEA, SA, and WiA to help everyone see the value and excitement of real-world applications of day-to-day work. Cheers, Zehui
